Dr. Hemant Choudhary is currently working as a Scientist, Senior Member of the Technical Staff at Joint BioEnergy Institute, Sandia National Laboratories, California, USA. He is a highly motivated and experienced PhD holder in material science, who has learned to bring a fundamental understanding of the chemical and physical nature of matter into a variety of socially and commercially significant applications. He has a strong background and keen interest in research related to solid state, liquids, organic/inorganic chemistry, and the manipulation of (bio)polymers for chemical, materials, and energy, in addition to having mastered advanced instrumentation and analysis of the developed materials.

Research interests:

  1. Development of new synthetic methodologies based on the principles of Green Chemistry
  2. Design of catalyst surfaces and to explore their activity for organic reactions
  3. Development of economically sustainable biomass pretreatment methodologies
  4. Development of multi-functional catalysts for chemical upgradation of lignocellulosic biomass
  5. Catalytic depolymerization of lignin
  6. Plastic recycling and transformation of non-degradable plastics into degradable bioplastics
  7. Design, synthesis, characterization of organic-inorganic hybrid materials or carbon-based advanced materials for catalysis and future applications
  8. Elucidation of catalytic potentials of metal nanoparticles based on structure-activity relationships
  9. Polymer electrolytes or organic-inorganic hybrid materials for fuel cell and sensing applications
  10. Development of polymeric materials for drug-delivery applications
  11. Study of surface properties of materials to explain and thereby design/fabricate materials
  12. Design and synthesis of ionic liquids for applications as herbicides, catalysts, solvents, among others
  13. Studies on physicochemical properties of ionic liquids
  14. Synthesis of energetic materials for use in and as fuel and propellants
  15. Synthesis of environmentally benign halogen-free flame retardants
