Major Research Outcome

Dr. Soundarapandian Kannan (SK) team developed a smart Phyto-therepeutics delivery system using metal nanoparticles / nanocomposite / Nano-fabricated biomaterials / hydrogels to target cancers and neurodegererative diseases.

His Team Identified and screened the enzyme-targeted prodrugs namely phyto-therapeutics and anti-cancer drugs using biomaterials decorated with anti-cancer biomarkers and succeeded in this attempt to reduce the impact of triple negative breast and colorectal cancers by inducing cell cycle arrest at G1/S phase and G2/M phase without side effects in the normal cells.

Team led by Dr. S.K. rigorously investigates at proteomic and sub-cellular level (Vivek and Kannan et al., 2012;2014;2016; 2018) is paying more attention on induction of endoplasmic reticular, mitochondrial and nuclear stress (Murugan and Kannan et al., 2016; Vimala et al., 2021) in triple negative breast cancer cells which add a credential point to uphold his research outcome.

The recent studies have well proven that the nanoformulated polymer based hydrogels are more efficient scaffolds to attenuate the Alzheimer’s Disease by optimizing the level of beta-amyloid and TAU proteins and acts as a potential wound healing (Murugan and Kannan et al., 2021) agents (India Patent Granted in 2024: Patent No.: 552717).
